Introduction

We are holding a Hector busy week on 23rd – 27 Sep, 2024. It will be held in Sydney at Macquarie University. The main points of focus for the meeting will be:

  • Updates from WG leads, and potentially data product leads.
  • Presentations from team members on their proposed Hector papers and progress with the new data.
  • Coordination of and work on the Hector main instrument Survey paper, Data reduction paper and Target selection papers.
  • Effort on defined Data Reduction and Target Selection tasks
  • Strategic discussions on
    • DPs
    • Prioritisation of targets
    • Science justifications for completeness levels

Registration for attendees

Please add your name to this list below, including the dates you will be attending and talk title if you would like to give a talk. For the location please specify “in person” or “remote” and say where you will be joining from (e.g. UWA). If you attend in person, please add any dietary requirements. We would also like you to list particular tasks you would like to be working on during the busyweek and/or discussion points you would like discussed.

To add your details: scroll down to the bottom left of this page and click “Edit”. Come back to the table to add your details. Click “Update” on the top right to update this page. For any issues contact stefania.barsanti@anu.edu.au and marie.partridge@sydney.edu.au. For example, if you cannot log on or edit this page, then email us with details.

Location

14 Sir Christopher Ondaatje Avenue, room 163, Macquarie University, Sydney

The Macquarie Uni Metro Station is close by and there are also buses available.

Information on getting to MQ is available on this link.

Public transport is highly recommended as there is no free onsite car parking. Information on parking at MQ is on this link.

Accommodation

MGSM Executive Hotel is recommended or alternatively Mercure Sydney Macquarie Park.

Remote access

https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/j/86397237640

Since we will not have people dialling in for every session – only a couple of UWA folks I think – if you are wanting to dial in for a session and the zoom is not connected in the busyweek room then text Julia (or anyone else at the busyweek) on 0432951638 to connect it.

Details for Dinner at Lachlan’s

Dinner at Lachlan’s on Wednesday night at 6pm. Lachlan’s is on campus (https://www.hotel.mgsm.com.au/lachlans-restaurant/contact-lachlans-restaurant) and we have been asked to pre-order our food. The menus can be found at Lachlan’s Menu.pdf and Indian Streets Menu 2024.pdf. Please add your name, order, and dietary requirements to the spreadsheet at:

Program

The program will aim to have most talks and structured discussion from 11am (Sydney time) onwards to make it easier for others in different time zones if we have people dialling in. If you want to add items to the program, please let Julia or Scott know. Nominal busy week hours will be 9am-5pm, but with a late start on the first day to allow from travel. Science talks are scheduled for 15mins ( + 5 for questions).

NOTE: this is draft program – nothing is carved in stone, and it will evolve during the busyweek and new discussions come up, so keep reloading.

Tasks to be done

  • Writing the Hector main Survey paper and the Hector Data reduction paper
  • Target selection tasks in the doc file here: https://cloud.datacentral.org.au/apps/files/?dir=/Hector/TargetSelection&fileid=406067314
  • Check algorithm for allocation of galaxies to spectrographs/hexabundle sizes. Need foreground dwarfs in cluster regions to be allocated to Spector bundles (test how well will that happens with the current allocation algorithm).
  • Evaluation of the QC metrics – are we setting the right limits?
  • QC if secondary standard are elliptical (telescope wobble) the galaxy data to be repeated this needs to be set in the QC.
